Meet the Captains
Capt. Brandon Wingate
Captain Brandon Wingate was raised on the waters of Maryland’s Eastern Shore—and got his first boat at just six years old. From fishing and crabbing as a boy to launching his first independent venture, Salt Tale Charters in 2022, he turned a lifelong passion into a profession built on skill, hospitality, and local knowledge.
Now, with Tides & Traditions, he’s expanding that vision—introducing new cruise and charter experiences that celebrate the heritage, beauty, and unmistakable spirit of the Eastern Shore.
Capt. Steve Barnes
Captain Steve Barnes began working the waters at just 11 years old—trot lining and running crab pots before most kids had their first summer job. He bought his first boat at age 14, and although he once promised himself “just one last summer” on the water after college, he never looked back.
A lifelong waterman and outfitter since 2019, Captain Steve brings grit, experience, and a deep-rooted respect for the Chesapeake to every charter—continuing the traditions that define life on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Capt. Tony LeCompte
Captain Tony LeCompte grew up on the water, where long days and early mornings shaped both his work ethic and his love for the Chesapeake. He started crabbing at 15 and by 18 was running crab pots—building the foundation for a lifetime connected to the Bay.
For more than 20 years, alongside operating his family monument business, Captain Tony has also worked as a fishing guide—combining entrepreneurship, experience, and a deep respect for Eastern Shore traditions in every charter he leads.
