Rooted in the Chesapeake

Tides & Traditions was built on a deep respect for the Chesapeake Bay and the generations of watermen, boatbuilders, and families who have shaped life along its shores.

Our mission is simple: to offer meaningful, authentic experiences that connect guests to the Bay’s natural beauty, working traditions, and rich maritime heritage.

At the heart of every trip is our vessel and her story.

Meet The Lois Ann

Built in 1973 by famed Tilghman Island boatbuilder Maynard Lowery, The Lois Ann is a classic Chesapeake Bay deadrise originally crafted for Richard and Lois Ann Lednum.

After decades of working the Bay, she was purchased by her current owner and thoughtfully restored, updated with modern technology while preserving her traditional elegance and performance. Today, The Lois Ann stands as a beautifully restored blend of heritage and capability, purpose-built for comfort, safety, and unforgettable time on the water.

When you cruise with Tides & Traditions, you’re not just boarding a boat, you’re stepping into a living piece of Chesapeake history.

What Makes T&T Unique?

Heritage You Can Touch

Built in 1973 on Tilghman Island by renowned Chesapeake boatbuilder Maynard Lowery, the Lois Ann spent decades working the Bay alongside local waterman Richard Lednum and his wife, Lois Ann—the woman for whom the boat was named. She wasn’t built for recreation, but for a life shaped by the tides, traditions, and working waters of the Chesapeake. When you cruise with Tides & Traditions, you're not just boarding a boat, you're stepping into a living piece of Chesapeake history.

Local Roots & Local Knowledge

Deeply rooted on the Choptank, our three captains are lifelong Eastern Shore watermen with over a century of combined experience on these waters. Raised here and shaped by the tides, they’ve spent their lives crabbing, fishing, and hunting professionally across the Bay. When they point out where the rockfish are running or which marsh held birds last week, it’s not speculation—it’s firsthand knowledge from being out there, season after season, tide after tide.

Private, Curated Experience

Six guests, one boat, one group at a time. No mixed parties. No fixed route. Add curated Eastern Shore light fare, fine wines, craft brews, and an unhurried pace, and you've got a private experience that feels less like a charter and more like a day on a friend's boat. Your group, your pace, your captain, your day.

A boat with a story. A captain with roots. A day on the water that's uniquely yours.

Why Cruise with Tides & Traditions

  • You'll have the boat to yourself. Every charter is private. No strangers, no shared schedule. Just your group on the water.

  • You'll be on a piece of Chesapeake history. The Lois Ann is a 1973 Maynard Lowery deadrise, a vessel built when watermen still ordered boats from the men who built them by hand. Most charter boats are products. She's an heirloom.

  • Your captain is a real waterman.

Brandon, Steve, and Tony were raised on the Choptank, carrying forward a way of life passed down through generations. Their knowledge isn’t learned from books or brochures—it comes from lived experience on these waters, built on what they’ve learned firsthand and what their fathers taught them before them.

  • The food and drink are part of the experience, not an afterthought.

Food and beverage are thoughtfully provided as a complimentary part of the outing, with curated Eastern Shore light fare and craft beverages included throughout the experience. For those looking to elevate the experience further, traditional crab feasts are available as an optional add-on. The focus remains on quality, regional authenticity, and a seamless time on the water from start to finish.

  • Every trip is built around your group.
Every trip is built around your group. Sunrise photography? Dinner across the Tred Avon in Easton? Or simply a slow cruise spent with friends and family—no agenda, no rush, just time on the water to relax, take in the views, and enjoy the company. Tell us what you want, and we’ll build the day around it.

  • You'll leave with more than photos.

You’ll leave with more than photos—a branded keepsake, a bushel of crabs, and a deeper connection to the water itself. Along the way, you’ll hear the stories of the watermen, their families, and the boats that have worked these tides for generations. It’s the kind of day that lingers long after you’re back on shore, the kind people find themselves telling others about.
